What is the Keto Diet and how does it actually work is the topic of discussion by The Health Nerd.
If, like me, you are regularly browsing the net and reading up on healthy living and weight loss you would probably come across the term “Ketosis”. So Ketosis is all about the benefits of a low carb diet. But let The Health Nerd break it down Scientifically for you!
Basically your body needs glucose otherwise it can go into a state of hypoglycemia which could even cause death. And where does the body get this glucose from? You’ve got it, carbohydrates. So when you don’t eat any carbs the body is not getting glucose. Your body obviously wants to live so it has devised 2 ways to produce the glucose it needs. One way is Gluconeogenesis where the glucose come from lactates, protein or lipids. The second is our focus today which is Ketosis where your liver converts fats into fatty acids and ketones.
Before advances in training, calorie counters, etc. we would probably have only gone into Ketosis when we were starving or had a certain illness.
