This is the questions we all ask at some point in our weight loss journey. Surely there must be a reason for these plateaus. Good news. There are reasons and The Health Nerd has 7 of them to share with us. And as always with his videos, they are all backed by Science!

The first reason stated actually makes a lot of sense. Basically you might be losing inches but not pounds. You do not lose weight in just a perfect linear fashion. That is why you shouldn’t rely exclusively on weighing yourself but rather weigh and measure yourself. At times you will lose inches and at other times you will lose pounds. As long as you are losing inches in the right places you are not plateauing. If you are gaining muscle that could also confuse the scale. That is because muscle mass is heavier than fat mass.

Steady inches loss especially from the belly is one of the best indicators that you are making progress. Over and above you belly you should also keep track of your arms, thighs, hips and butt. You are only on a plateau if you haven’t lost pounds or inches in more than 2 weeks. If that happens it is time to look at the next 6 reasons which you will find in the video.
